Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for helpers
working with people at risk of suicide in an
ongoing counseling or case management
role.
Participants will be those who:
• Work with persons at risk beyond
the immediate first aid situation and
want to learn more about helping a
person at risk.
• Participants must have taken the
Living Works Applied Suicide
Intervention Skills Training
(ASIST) as there is no time within
this seminar to adequately review
the ASIST workshop content.
Learning Process
The program assumes that participants
have had formal counseling or clinical
training and will bring this learning to the
seminar.
The Outcome
Participants will improve their ability to:
• Distinguish four intervention
strategies(first aid, management,
treatment and therapy);
• Clarify the helping roles associated
with these strategies and recognize
which role they are fulfilling with a
person at risk at any one time;
• Integrate the action(tasks)
competencies(tools) and helper
characteristics(traits) needed to
implement these strategic roles
effectively;
• Enhance awareness beliefs,
attitudes and practices which
facilitate or impede an effective
helping relationship with a person at
risk beyond crisis.
.
About the workshop
This one-day workshop aims to enhance
helper self-awareness, knowledge and
competence in working constructively with a
person at risk beyond the immediate crisis.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to work with
persons at risk beyond crisis by:
• Building on the principles and
practice of suicide first aid;
• Understanding helper issues
associated with ongoing care;
• Demonstrating a working knowledge
of intervention strategies.
